Flies That Don't Fly - Phantom Crane Flies
Переглядів 13814 днів тому
August 1, 2023 in Sudbury, Massachusetts. Phantom crane flies “have tiny wings, but their primary means of aerial flotation comes from their six long legs, some segments of which are expanded and filled with breathing tubes. The legs extend outward from the body like wheel spokes to catch the faintest breeze. Phantom crane flies appear to float through the air.” Whit Gibbons, The Tuscaloosa New...

If there are this many basses then how tf do I not catch any
you must not be using crayfish bait.
Beautiful video. Thank you!
Very nice footage!
Thank you! Finally upgraded my gear after many years. I’m checking out your channel now. Loving the woodpecker footage.
Excellent footage! I really enjoyed this one with the audio, it played well together. Also was interesting to see their own curiosity and behaviors. The sunfish appeared to be protecting their nests, and I saw some yellow perch _Perca flavescens_ at the end!
I’m glad you liked the audio. I’m not getting the greatest audio from my GoPro so feeling the need to add music, which is a whole Nother ballgame!
Orb weavers are very mesmerizing. I’ve had a few over the years show up and I would check on them everyday. A very large yellow garden specimen one year had a couple tiny males that would hang on the fringes of the gorgeous web. I enjoy the brown garden spiders too that take down their web every morning as well. Down south we typically see the orb weavers more in late summer, early autumn.
So these turtles drive away from their territories not only other turtles, but all intruders in general, including man?
The turtle was seeing itself in my camera and thought I was a turtle. I’m gonna try turning that screen off in the future.
This is one of my favorite spiders, the translucent green of their legs is unmatched!
You must feel lucky that they’re so common!
This was really good! Thank you!
I liked the music
Thanks much Mike. Most of the audio I’m getting from my GoPro is unusable so I’m trying to find music to put over the footage, but not always sure if it’s the best option. Hey, if you know of any good spots around here to go snorkeling, could you let me know? I can’t think of too many.
@ChromatophoneNature if you're willing to brave the water quality, the river you often feature in your videos would be cool. The famous kettle ponds just east of you are perfect. Small stream stuff can be cool...it's almost limitless.
Cool, thanks! It looks like the water quality gets better as you head toward Concord, according to a site I found.
Girl's got those boots!
But yet they use their wings for the flight to a certain degree, don't they?
Apparently, they really don’t use the wings much for flight. Maybe they use them for steering.
My absolute favorite insect. Theyre beautiful and huge up close.
The raindrops on the water are so beautiful.
I think he lost a limb.
How do you distinguish them as spring peeper tadpoles? I've seen many large writhing masses of black tadpoles in Southern Ontario July 2nd. The tadpoles appear to be black with gold specks, a flat belly and eyes at the top of their heads. They have a solid tail with translucent clear fins. I want to ID these.
That’s a great question. I find identifying tadpoles to be very difficult and I’m not good at it. These were just so tiny that I assumed they were spring peepers, but I could be wrong.
Nice! Too many small fish and not enough larger predators will stunt the growth of everything. My cousin's one pond is loaded with small bluegill and I toss them in the stream below the dam for the coons. I did the same to larger pond and it has a much heathier population.
The colors and iridescence of that turtle’s shell are stunning. I’ve never seen one like that.
I have seen this many times but never this intense.
it's paint it's fake .it's animal cruelty. people do stupid shit for views
I seriously doubt this creator would do anything like that.
😂
😍😍😍
Woah, what is with the iridescence? That's wild looking
My understanding is it’s due to water parameters where the turtle resides.
One source I found said it’s caused by natural iron oxides in the water.
What amazing underwater footage!
More to come!
very cute muskrat
I can't thank you enough for your fabulous recordings. You are able to recreate the moments of my childhood that I loved the best but with way better coverage, angles, proximity etc. Utterly beautiful.
This is great to hear. If you know other people who would appreciate my videos, please share them, as for some reason this channel gets fewer views these days.
Wow!
Great reptile footage. The water snake was a bonus! Are there beavers in that area? 2:18 just wondering how that log front and center got cut that way out in the wild.
I would guess there are beavers in the area, but I haven’t seen any. I actually don’t visit this particular spot much.
@@ChromatophoneNature maybe you should visit more often if it is not out of the way or hard to access. I know you’ve got the eye for anything out there, who knows what else you may find!
Insane...
Это нормально, что она откладывает яйца в дневное время?
Yes, I often see this species nesting during the day.
@@ChromatophoneNature Это неожиданно. Очень интересно. Спасибо!
Such beautiful footage, as always. Do you know why the ospreys were bothering the herons? Are they trying to protect their young? Being territorial? Just mean?
I believe the ospreys were protecting their young. Eventually the nesting herons left and did not return.
@@ChromatophoneNature Oh, dear. Did they leave their young ones behind? Or did the younglings fledge and then everyone left?
I think everyone left. This year it seems as though the ospreys have left as well.
@@ChromatophoneNature I hope after the young were able to fend for themselves. Thank you for answering my questions-don’t know why I’m so invested in it.
I wish I was that fish
Pandora or Pandorus Sphinx moth worm (Caterpillars), its food is Virginia creeper, it also exists in North China.
Redundancy is fun. The herrings harrowing journey was ended by the heron.
Must be one satifying dump
Amazing experience!
Hardest working bird in the forest!
Great video
Very nice video. Herons are so cool! Enjoyed seeing the gull as well.
WASTE OF TIME! DIDNT EVEN SHOW IT!
And those log cabin caddisfly larvae are the weirdest creatures I’ve seen lately. Are the stick-like formations part of their body or something added to disguise them?
They build them out of debris and sticky silk for protection.
@@ChromatophoneNature Thank you for the information.
What glorious views of that lovely ovenbird!
Thank you for sharing. I have a Cardinal nest built right outside my back patio in a Rose of Sharon bush. Two little eggs are in it right now. Your video helps me to know what activity I can expect to witness over the coming weeks.
Awesome!
Nice Video. Keep them coming. People need to be thrilled by the wonderfulness of Nature. Doctor George Whitehead
Thank god im not a butterfly 😳
I don't think that's a bullfrog they are more fater
The birdsong resumes at 16:00.
where is the flamethrower
"ah! you did it! :ooooo" *snake actively slithering away* "aaand you escaped from your cage :/"
Thank you so much for capturing the phantom crane flies in flight! I just saw one here in Florida. It's been years since I've seen any around here. I never knew what they were called. Just remembered them being super cool to watch in flight! The one I saw today in my house only has 4 legs and resembles a drone. 😄
Am I the only one who thinks it looks like Kaa, the snake in Jungle Book?
Thank you for giving us this insight into a beautiful winged couple's life. What tree are they nesting in, and how high is it off the ground? Just curious how you got such an up close vantage point! 🐦 I am in Ontario and I am blessed to have cardinals visit daily. I love seeing the male do his proud little chirp to signal to his shyer half to come nibble at my sunflower seed buffet. Sometimes she needs encouragement and seeing him feed her mouth to mouth is so so sweet.
It is some kind of ornamental shrub, not a tree. The nest was about 4 feet off the ground.
Selamat anda mendapatkan makan siang yang empuk😂
What are the yellow arrows?
Maybe you are referring to the lily pads?
